Deion Sanders attempts to bring positivity to Reality TV Market…

Far removed from his “Primetime” days when he embodied the ultimate in superstar bravado and misogynistic posturing, former NFL star Deion Sanders will debut this Tuesday on a new reality TV show based on his home life. The show, entitled Deion & Pilar: Prime Time Love, will air on the Oxygen Network, and will focus on presenting a positive image for African-American families. On Prime Time Love, He and his wife Pilar raise their five children confronting issues such as dating and helping with homework. Hopefully, the show will follow in the footsteps of “Run’s House” which has represented the Black family admirably since it premiered on MTV. With it’s realistic presentation of a patriarchal household, where Rev. Run of RUN D.M.C. fame guides his family through a variety of challenges and triumphs, the show displays the strong family unit that most outside our community don’t realize exists. Rev. Run shows respect for his wife and clearly views her as partner in the raising of their children, who appreciate their love and guidance. Contrary to popular belief, this type of strong family unit is very common in the Black community, and hopefully the Deion Sander’s show will give us another view of black family love.
