The institution of racisms modern methods of doing so is by controlling what is released in the world of black music and entertainment.

For NAS to start off his video with Malcolm explaining ways that the institution of racism placates their efforts in perpetuating slavery is an interesting choice for him.

When I first read about him naming his upcoming album "Nigger" about a year ago, I said to myself, "shock value = media attention = record downloads = making money."

NAS is not a name brand rapper in rap game anymore. Some people will do anything to stay legitimate and this is NAS's approach to doing so.

Do we need this?

What we need as black folk is to get to a point where one word does not cause us to lose our composure.

When I have been called it in the past by someone of another race, I'm amazed at how angry the person who called me gets when they see it did not get me discombobulated.

What is really interesting is how being calm with a "tight, quick witted come back" just absolutely destroys them.

We as black folk need to develop "thick skin" when it comes to the uttering of that word from other races. Don't get so bent out of shape that your come back is effected by it.

It does serve to expose that entity as to what and who they really are when they use it. Especially in when used in certain contexts.

WITH WHAT WE AS A PEOPLE HAVE BEEN THROUGH IN THIS COUNTRY, FOR US TO HAVE THE SUCCESSES THAT WE HAVE (YOU WON'T FIND TOO MANY EXAMPLES OF THEM IN MAIN STREAM MEDIA) in many of our lives and families:

WE ARE, IF NOT THE STRONGEST, THEN ONE OF THE STRONGEST GROUPS OF PEOPLE ON THIS PLANET!

Nas is just not one of them. He THINKS he is as does his fellow fans, but he is not.

"Negro" is a terrible word. It connotes exactly what Manning is saying. But is this message accurate? I'm not black and obviously have no clue what people who happen to be black may or may not suffer by white society. I like to think that the worst days are behind us and that sincere men like Obama can run for the highest office and not be insulted by whites or blacks. Calling him a 'good negro' is the same as 'uncle Tom', if I understand correctly.

It is to Obama's credit that he's able to reach out to everyone, regardless of race or social status. Disagree with Obama if you don't like his politics, pastor Manning, but do you really prefer the alternative?

As you're note aware I'm no fan of Obama, but I have to point out that Nader is factually incorrect;

Obama has taken a strong - within the limits of what regulation is legal - against predatory payday loan business.

Obama has successfully proposed legislation to illuminate lead paint in schools and other venues.

Obama was centrally involved - though not to the extent he claimed - in the Altgeld Gardens Asbestos Campaign

Both you and Nader are correct though in stating that Obama is not trying to be a Black candidate. Sadly, since he's a long standing worshiper of Black Liberation Theology - with all its hate, racism, and victimology, it's entirely possible that Obama may be being disingenuous in his post-racial platform.

Depending on your viewpoint and prejudices this could be seen as either a good or bad thing. ;)

Musicfann, it's not Michelle Obama's fault that America is a capitalistic society and want to make money off her -- not for her.

All she did was wear the dress. America took it to the next level. How can you blame THAT on her??? Do I detect 'dress' envy?

Think what you want of what he has to "say".

What is more telling is Obama's treatment of his "old friend".

I would have had more respect for Obama if he didn't engage in the simpering "back stepping" away from the Reverend, that he did.

Just as a "PERSON", he doesn't deserve to be a Presidential Candidate.

And this is the first time that she is "truly" proud of her dress.

GOD, how shallow does one have to be, to be a Presidential Candidates wife ?

ALL of the pressing problems and she gives us a new dress to buy ! What a great contribution to the National Debate.
